3065mm high by 8940mm wide to accommodate 1 fixed and 5 sliding doors along with 3 fixed and 2 opening fanlights above.

The mitred return comprises a frame of 3065mm high by 2935mm wide to accommodate 2 sliding doors opening over an exterior wall with 2 opening fanlights above.

Materials:

Sill: Iroko with American White Oak reveals for interior clear finish to match flooring

Jambs, transom, head and mullions: NZ Rimu for interior clear finish

Sliding doors and sashes: 65mm thick Western Red Cedar for interior clear finish

Challenges

Following the architectural design, our company was engaged to assist in the practicalities of manufacturing a frame of this magnitude. Our involvment commenced at footing stage to create rebate sizes into the concrete slab required to accommodate the sill size.

Apart from the sheer size and shape of the frame, the joinery was required to incorporate concealed steel structural posts into the mullions and fixed door.

The positioning of steel posts and lintels were advised by our company prior to installation and subsequent manufacturing of the joinery.

Incorporating the threaded steel rods running through the head, mullions and transom added to the complexity. These rods were welded to the lintel above to support the weight of the oversized transom.

Mullions and daylight sizes of the large sliding frame were required to align with joinery on the first level which had yet to be manufactured.

200 factory manufacturing hours followed by 100 installation hours by our site team required logistical skill and attention to fine detail. A real team effort.
